MORNINGS AFTER // Bean Kaloni Tupou’s Self-Dom: The musician gets territorial in San Jose by Shona Sanzgiri

Bean’s Victorian apartment building in San Jose is surrounded by rows of other homes in various states of disrepair, flanked by crippled palm trees, bordered by iron gates. They think of their home as a privilege, a place to satisfy most impulses. It’s no surprise their forthcoming record as Try the Pie is Domestication. We walked through their house and talked about growing up with Tongan culture, while playing fetch with Bean’s two dogs.
